Goblet of Fire
She goes to the Yule Ball with Neville but regrets that when the yet, Harry would settle for her.
(Obviously, Ginny doesn’t have the same level of self-respect as Hermione.)
“I’m going with – with Neville.  He asked me when Hermione said no,
and  I thought...well...I’m not going to be able to go otherwise, I’m not in
fourth year.”  She looked extremely miserable.
Goblet of Fire
Chapter 22
All my thoughts about that one are entirely uncharitable so I’ll restrain myself from lashing out.

We learn that at some point, possibly over the summer, possibly even before that, the two girls
have bonded. We know this because Hermione confides in Ginny who asked her to the ball,
when she won’t even tell her two best friends.

And Ginny doesn't tell the boys Hermione's secret. She does shut the boys up when they laugh
at poor Neville having been turned down by Hermione. So I'll admit she's not entirely evil...
Her second biggest appearance in 5 books. And that’s only because she’s finally “given up” on
Harry and can speak in front of him.

This in and of itself is obviously a lie. She’s never given up hope on Harry. She dates other,
older
boys to get his attention and even that fails.

Michael Corner she met at the Yule Ball, which she attended with Neville. Michael is in the year
above Ginny at Hogwarts. And then she dates Dean Thomas, who everyone knows is Harry and
Ron’s dorm/classmate.

While they are at Grimmauld Place, she lies to her mother about the dungbombs so quickly and
effortlessly, it would seem with practiced ease. She lies with a straight face and without having
to think about it.
“...And who’s left all these Dungbombs outside the kitchen door?”

“Crookshanks,” said Ginny unblushingly. “He loves playing with them.”

“Oh,” said Mrs. Weasley, “I thought it might have been Kreacher, he
keeps doing odd things like that...Ginny, your hands are filthy, what have
you been doing?”
Order of the Phoenix
Chapter 4
She tries out for Quidditch no doubt in another attempt to gain Harry’s attention. If she makes
the team she gets to not only impress him with her amazing
skillz but also spend a great deal of
time with him, away from everyone else, away from Hermione and Cho and any other girl who
may be after him.

And when the question is raised of how she got so good, Hermione reveals that Ginny’s been
stealing her brothers’ brooms to practice for years.
“Actually, I dunno how she got so good, seeing how we never let her
play with us...”
“She’s been breaking into your broom shed in the garden since the age of
six and taking each of your brooms out in turn when you weren’t looking,”
said Hermione from behind her tottering pile of Ancient Rune books.
“Oh,” said George, looking mildly impressed.
Order of the Phoenix
Chapter 26
These instances show her being resourceful in her sneakiness and secretive. She knows how to
get what she wants and it doesn’t matter what she has to do in order to achieve it.
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George", said Ginny
thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've
got enough nerve.”
Order of the Phoenix
Chapter 29
There is also a two-faced quality about her. She doesn’t exactly but is always sweet and friendly
to Luna’s face.

Hermione has apparently spoken to Ginny about Luna after their meeting on the train and
though Hermione may not be inclined to see eye-to-eye with Luna, it’s clearly Ginny’s
unfavorable description that pushes Hermione to think negatively about Luna.

We don’t hear the conversation, so we don’t know exactly what was said, but we do have
Hermione’s reaction to Luna’s pledge of faith.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake, Harry, you can do better than her,” said
Hermione. “Ginny’s told me all about there’s no proof at all.  Well, I wouldn’t
expect anything else from someone whose father runs
The Quibbler.”
Order of the Phoenix
Chapter 13
The only thing besides manipulation and Quidditch that she seems to be good at is the ever-
useful Bat Bogey Hex which more or less sounds like someone’s first bit of accidental magic, not
so much a distinguished spell they’d teach you in class.

She hexes Malfoy which seems to have been the inciting incident to the gang breaking free of the
clutches of the Inquisitorial Squad back in Umbridge’s office. So I’ll give her a few points for
being able to function enough to hit Malfoy.
Yet she doesn’t stay functional for long and is further proof that the
Weasley’s often get left in the dust in these types of adventures.

At the Department of Mysteries, she gets separated with Ron and Luna.
She winds up breaking her ankle. She needs Luna to carry her and even
then gets herself knocked out.

She’s a burden here, not an asset, much like her brother. Neither Weasley
does anything remotely helpful once they get to the Department. They
become liabilities for the others and are more likely to get everyone
caught, hurt or killed then save the day or provide any useful
information or help.
Not an Asset
She never is the voice of reason, never is the sympathetic ear, never offers any amount of
advice...she’s not the one any of them confide in – except maybe for Hermione. Ginny is the only
girl Hermione has to discuss girly things with that the boys would run away from, laugh at or
just not understand.

She brings up her possession in this book. Since she’s been a non-entity in the previous books,
her possession is something that Harry and probably most of the readers have forgotten about.
I feel this is important, us being reminded of the possession coupled with Voldemort’s
possession of Harry at the end of the book, I feel is a sort of red flag that this is being brought up
again for a reason.

It’s not usual for Rowling to mention something more than once, so either this is will be huge or
it’s a diversion. A “look over here while I pull the rug out from under you and beat you over the
head with it when you realize how blind you were to not see it in the first place” kind of thing...
which is right up her alley actually.

Ginny’s sort of like the twins, personality wise. She’s sneaky, has no problem lying and isn’t
exactly trustworthy. The only difference is that it’s good-natured in the twins, but in Ginny it’s
not as light-hearted or amusing. I’m not saying she’ll turn around and be Voldemort’s cohort,
but there’s something negative in her behavior.
Here is the complete transformation from shy, little Ginny with a huge crush to Super Ginny!

She has now assumed Hermione’s powers of intelligence and magical
exact right time to appear with her little pearls of wisdom. She’s pretty, she’s popular,
she’s good at Quidditch...boy, oh, boy...it’s the trifecta of perfection! How can any man resist?

Hermione herself has descended into a dark void of madness and totally erratic behaviour as a
result and everyone else has lost their minds because of this galactic imbalance.

She smells flowery and so loverly Harry is possessed with a monster who took up residence in
his chest, and this is not a friendly monster...it’s telling Harry to do mad things like wreak havoc
on poor Dean.

Harry had spent summers with the Weasley’s before – he’s spent this entire summer together
with them and never noticed her.

Only when she starts taking on Hermione’s qualities, shoving Hermione into the dirt, does
Harry take notice of her. Only Ginny has become SuperHermione not only is she superskilled
and a supergenius, she also plays Quidditch like a pro! And even then she has to all but destroy
Hermione in front of Harry to make him see her.

There are two instances where Ginny blatantly abuses Hermione in front of everyone. To say
their friendship is a little rocky in this one, is the understatement of the millennium. Something
has transpired between the two girls that Harry (and us too) is unaware of, something to cause a
rift between them.

I’ll provide the evidence soon. I lack the stamina to retrieve the book from where I’ve hidden it
out of sight.

Until then...I shall leave you with this...

In a book that has everyone acting a bit wonky in a self-centered (Ron’s a slut to the point of
ignoring his friends)
, forgetful of the world around them (not one of them thinks of asking the Patil
twins, Hannah Abbott or Susan Bones how they are seeing as their family members were recently attacked
and/or killed)
, irresponsible (the great and powerful Dumbledore who last year wouldn’t let Umbridge so
much as shake Marrietta Edgecomb by the shoulders allows not one but TWO students get attacked)
,
spiteful
(Hermione’s and Ron’s behavior, Harry continuing to use the HBP textbook against Hermione’s
warnings)
way, how is it possible that Ginny is the only one to come out of this core change in
character for the better?

Granger's Army
“I didn't want anyone to talk to me," said Harry, who was feeling more
and more nettled.

"Well, that was a bit stupid of you," said Ginny angrily, "seeing as you
don't know anyone but me who's been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I
can tell you how it feels."

Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he
wheeled around.

    "I forgot," he said.

    "Lucky you," said Ginny coolly.
