As we're sure you all know, Rowling announced last night that Dumbledore is gay.

What is the point of revealing information that clearly has no relevance on the story? That has no
bearing on the man's character?

If there were some piece of the puzzle missing, something that made no sense, some
unanswered question about Dumbledore, then we'd get it. To reveal this information would be
to clear up some long-standing mystery. She'd be doing it for the greater good - give the story a
proper ending. If this were the case, then we'd say "Thank you, Jo. You saved us from a lifetime
of sleepless nights."

But this is not what happened.

There is no point.

There is no relevancy.

It's random and nonsensical. Who cares? If it was necessary to the plot it should have been
mentioned somewhere in the series.

It is clear in this interview, in the last one she gave, and in the end of the series that Rowling has
lost her sense of subtlety.

Subtlety is an art. It is an art she was always a master of...until now!

Now, she has to heavy-hand, beat you over the head and force down your throat would-be
natural plot progressions. Whereas before she would allude, imply and understate so you got
the point without realizing it had been made.

She's already addressed the themes of discrimination and intolerance. She's done it with
half-breeds, house elfs, goblins and Mudbloods. And she's done it in such a poetic way.

We ask you, what does Dumbledore's sexual orientation have to do with anything?

Why the need to state it? The series is over. It can change nothing.

By stating things overtly it can only ever take something away.

It takes away your
imagination.

What's the crime in letting someone draw their own conclusions? As a writer, you have to trust
your audience's intelligence. You have to trust that they will understand the important facts and
let go the minutia.

You can't treat them like they're idiots. You can't overstate things until they feel bludgeoned.
Once you give it to them, it's as much theirs as it is yours.

Why can't we daydream about Dumbledore and McGonagall if we want to? Why did we need
the romantic pairings of hormonally ravaged, terminally endangered teenagers cemented for all
time?

What is wrong with things being left to the imagination? Thus giving over free reign to a world
of fanfiction and speculation -- the fun of the thing.

Rowling's greatest sin has been her complete disregard for the responsibility she bears to her
fans. At one time, she valued the fans, truly loved them and appreciated their dedication.

And now, after all is said and done, she has abandoned the ties that bind the reader with the
writer. She has instead taken to insistence and alienation. Only she knows and understands.
And we're all idiots who have to have everything micromanaged for us to comprehend them.

Well, we're not idiots. We do understand things.

Things like important facts about a story or character should be included in the actual story and
not added as an afterthought or addendum.

We've never believed her to be an idiot or unintelligent in the ways of writing, revelations or fan
relationships. So we can't fathom what is going on with her other than Voldemort has possessed
her and is addling her brains.

This only intensifies our belief and dedication to Granger's Army!

The Muggle Legions must be superimportant to this war otherwise we would not be enduring
so many attempted manipulations and feedings of wonky misinformation.

GA Forever!
