The mist has returned to Hogwarts. Ron and Harry ponder why
Dumbledore is focusing on telling Harry the history of how Tom
Riddle became Lord Voldemort. Hermione interjects telling them
that it is very important for Harry to have this information.  It
is the key to understanding LV and discovering his weaknesses.

Hermione fills the boys in on the details of Slug’s party.  She
says it was good and that she has introduced to Gwenog Jones. Ron
is very impressed that she was able to meet the captain of the
Holyhead Harpies. Hermione thinks she was really full of herself.

(BEGIN ASIDE:Only Hermione would not be flustered by the presence
of a celebrity! She is a total rock star in my book!
END ASIDE).

Hermione goes on to tell Harry about the Christmas party that
Slug is having. She also says that Harry must attend as Slug has
gone out of his way to be sure Harry had no conflicts for that
date. Ron reacts like a baby for a change and gets pissy that he
was not invited to the party.  He is jealous that Hermione and
Harry get to be in the Slug Club and that he is not invited. He
ridicules the club and it’s name. He tells Hermione that she
should try hooking up with MacLaggen and that they can be crowned
Queen and King Slug. Hermione is hurt by the comment and tells
Ron that they were allowed to bring guests to the party and that
she was going to ask him before he was so rude to her.

(BEGIN ASIDE PART II: We are supposed to swallow that this is the
reaction of two people madly in love? I think that Ron is the
most insensitive and disrespectful character in the series!
END
ASIDE PART II).

It seems almost like Hermione was going to invite Ron to the
party because he is whining about not being included.  Harry
isn't surprised by this development, but seems to be a bit
uncomfortable with it. He is worried that the relationship he
built with Ron and Hermione cannot survive their dating.  He has
created a pseudo-family at Hogwarts and is afraid of being
isolated again.
...He and Cho were now too embarrassed to look at each other, let
alone talk to each other; what if Ron and Hermione started going
out together, then split up? Could their friendship survive it?
Harry remembered the few weeks they had not been talking to each
other in the third year; he had not enjoyed trying to bridge the
distance between them. And then, what if they didn't split up?
What if they became like Bill and Fleur, and it became
excruciatingly embarrassing to be in their presence, so that he
was shut out for good.

Now indulge me as I begin to look at this chapter embracing the
events in it in the context of the title: Felix Felicis.

Given the title of this chapter, perhaps it is possible that we
are seeing the effects of a bit of liquid luck. Who could have
taken the potion? Who would benefit from all the events in this
chapter? The answer seems to point to Ginny Weasley. How might
she have gotten the potion though? Well, we clearly know that
Slug had some brewing and showed it off on the first day of
class. We also know (or learn later in the book) that Malfoy was
able to steal some Polyjuice Potion. Why is it so hard to believe
that someone could have stolen some Felix?

Evidence that everything seems to be going well for Ginny:
  • Harry thinks that Ron and Hermione like each other. This
makes Hermione untouchable in Harry’s mind; you don’t go
    for your best friend’s girl.

  • Dean lands a position on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
This is good for Ginny because she can flaunt her
relationship in Harry’s face. This would be a constant
reminder to him that she is attractive and desirable.

  • At practice, Ginny yells at Ron, calling him a prat. She
undermines Harry’s authority by taking it upon herself
to scold her brother, but Harry does not react.

  • Harry and Ron happen upon her kissing Dean on the way
back from practice, inciting the famous chest monster.
Once again this is a way for Harry to be reminded that
she is an attractive and desirable girl. She is flat our
rude to Ron. She insults him because of his lack of
experience, but Harry is more concerned that she was
snogging Dean than that she is attacking his best friend.

  • On the day of the game, “Gryiffindor could do no wrong.”
Not only were they unstoppable, but Ginny was the star
of the team.  She scored 4 out of 6 goals for the team.
The weather was amazing and the other team had missing
    players.

  • At the end of the game, Ginny soars into the
commentator’s box as a means of retaliating for the
nasty comments made against them.  She does not get into
trouble with any of the professors (I would think such
behaviour would warrant detention in the very least).
This also makes Ginny the center of attention once
again. She keeps creating circumstances where Harry
    can’t help but notice her.

  • After the game, Harry hugs her and the whole team walks
off the field arm in arm.

  • At the victory party, she runs up to Harry and touches
his arm calling attention to herself once again through
    physical contact.
